Boarding School Foundation (Academic Year)

This course prepares students who wish to enter a UK boarding school and students are helped on an individual basis to gain a place at their chosen school. As every parent will know, it is essential that students are given as much preparation and support as possible prior to starting school life.
Depending on the needs of the student, courses can be of one, two or three terms. Our staff will support the student for entry to an appropriate UK boarding school of their choice. Courses consist of 25 hours classroom time per week with a further 5 hours of supervised self study and 1 sport session per day. All students are tested on arrival before being placed in the class at their level. The course consists of:

  • English for Education - The ‘English for Education’ curriculum focuses on the language in school subjects such as mathematics, sciences, geography, history, art and sports.
  • Experience of Boarding School Life - An integral part of the Foundation Course is the preparation given to students for life in a UK boarding school.
  • Cultural Preparation - In-School projects and visiting speakers also help to give students an insight into the customs and culture of the United Kingdom.
  • IGCSE’s – students who achieve an appropriate level of English can be entered for IGCSE’s in: English as a Second Language, Mathematics, Business Studies, IT and Art.

English for Education (Academic Year)

Students develop academic and everyday English, and are encouraged to use their newly acquired language in and out of the classroom. Students study grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading, writing and pronunciation. In addition, they also study the language of academic subjects such as IT, Science, Mathematics, Arts and Physical Education. By including these subjects, students are able to consolidate the skills they have already gained at home but in English. The focus is on the development of students’ skills in relation to full curriculum study, for example, Writing Skills and Research Skills linked to Project Work. Academic Year courses have one hour of sport per day during which students practice sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, badminton and table-tennis.

English Plus Multi-Activities (Academic Year)

English plus Multi-Activities runs from 6.01.08 – 2.02.08 and 16.03.08 – 07.06.08. English in the morning is followed by a selection of sports including basketball, cycling, orienteering, volleyball, badminton and squash.
