STEP (Summer)

The STEP (Sixteen To Eighteen Programme) is a practical course for 16 to 18 year olds which prepares students for further academic study and for adult life in the modern world. STEP is literally the step between junior and adult education. We provide the structure, support and welfare of a junior programme with the independence and responsibility offered by adult programmes. The topics and subjects covered are chosen specifically for this age group. For example the media, environment, culture or arts. The programme includes guest speakers, lectures, workshops and field visits. Classes are held at Regent’s College and inside the adult school in Soho. Lunch is not included on the STEP programme. The course is appropriate for elementary learners upwards and consists of the following components:

English Language and Study Skills

15 hours per week focusing on the skills required to cope in the global environment. In addition to practising English skills, students also develop an awareness of the Study Skills needed to succeed in any adult learning institution.

Task Based Project and Skills Training

8 hours per week focusing on using and developing English skills in real life communicative situations. Projects are based on contemporary relevant topics such as: Culture, Gender, the Media and the Environment. The course will stimulate, inspire and fill students with the confidence needed to move on to one of the most challenging stages in their lives. Projects will culminate in multimedia presentations and question and answer sessions.

Full Day Accompanied Excursions

Every Saturday students are given the opportunity to participate in a full day excursion which provides the opportunity to discover more about London, or visit exciting cultural and historical destinations such as Cambridge, Brighton and Stonehenge. This excursion is optional, and students pay transport and entrance fees.

Sport

London can cater for most tastes in sports, and tennis and football are included in course fees - staff can arrange other sporting experiences as requested (at extra cost).

Evening Social Activities

Optional activities are arranged early evening twice weekly which are designed to allow students to learn, explore and discover London whilst practising English with fellow students and teachers. Students pay transport and entrance fees.Top

Accommodation is provided in single rooms, or shared rooms when 2 students enrol and travel together. Home stay providers will assist with students’ laundry. Accommodation is half-board.
