Module 4: Curriculum Familiarisation & Planning Tasks

Introduction

Welcome to Module 4! Now that you're familiar with SKOLA's core principles, safeguarding foundations, and operational structure, it's time to dive into the practical side of planning engaging learning experiences. This module focuses on accessing and understanding our curriculum resources and requires you to complete an essential planning task. This preparation is key to ensuring you are 'Ready' to meet our students' needs from day one.

Your Task Overview

The main goal of this module is for you to demonstrate your planning skills using SKOLA resources. You will need to:

  1. Create two distinct lesson plans suitable for your assigned (starting) student group and level using the curriculum.

  2. Create one trip plan outlining a SKOLA excursion for your assigned student group.

To do this effectively, you first need to access the correct curriculum materials on Google Drive.

Step 1: Confirm Your Assigned Group

Before you start planning, be certain which age group you will primarily be working with this summer.

  • Wanderers (Ages 5-6) / Discoverers (Ages 7-9) - Mainly based at Gloucester Gate

  • Explorers (Ages 10-12) - Based at Regent's Park

  • Leaders (Ages 13-17) - Based at Regent's Park

You should find your specific assignment details in below:

Step 2: Access Your Curriculum on Google Drive

SKOLA's curriculum frameworks, resources, and templates are stored centrally for easy access.

  • Log in: First, ensure you are logged into your official SKOLA Google Account (the one ending in @skola.co.uk). You must be logged into this account to access shared drives.

  • Navigate:

    1. Open Google Drive.

    2. On the left-hand menu, click on Shared Drives.

    3. Find and open the shared drive named: SKOLA Drive 2025

    4. Inside that, open the folder: SKOLA 2025

    5. Next, open the folder: Curricula

    6. Finally, select the folder that corresponds to the age group you will be teaching/leading:

      • Folder: Discoverers (Curriculum for ages 5-9, covering both Wanderers and Discoverers groups)

      • Folder: Explorers (Curriculum for ages 10-12)

      • Folder: Leaders (Curriculum for ages 13-17).

Step 2b: Access Google Classroom for Templates

The specific templates you must use for this planning task are located in our your Google Classroom.

  • Log in: Ensure you are still logged into your SKOLA Google Account.

  • Access Classroom:

    1. Go directly to classroom.google.com in your web browser.

    2. OR, from your SKOLA Gmail or Google Drive, click the Google Apps menu (the 9-dot 'waffle' icon in the top-right corner) and select the Classroom icon.

  • Join/Find the Classroom: You should see or be invited to a Classroom named Discovers or Explorers or Leaders. Click to enter it. (SKOLA: Specify if staff need an invitation, a code, or if they are auto-enrolled).

  • Locate Templates: Inside the Classroom:

    1. Go to the 'Classwork' tab/page.

    2. Look for a topic named Lesson Planning

    3. Under this topic, you will find the official SKOLA Lesson Plan Template and the SKOLA Trip Plan Template. Please download copies of these templates to your computer or make a copy to your own Google Drive to work on.

Step 3: Explore the Curriculum Materials

Once inside the correct folder, take some time to familiarise yourself with the contents. You will find materials such as:

  • Curriculum overviews and learning objectives for different levels

Step 4: Create Your Lesson Plans (Task 1) Using the curriculum materials from Google Drive (Step 3) and the official SKOLA Lesson Plan Template obtained from Google Classroom (Step 2b), please design two complete and distinct lesson plans.
